| Roksha was born the second son to Chansor, chief of the Sorntra, a medium
sized Litorian clan of the central planes. The Sorntra lived near the
foothills of the Bitter Pears, due west of De-Shamod. Roksha spent
his youth running with the young hunters, learning the ways of the
hunt and running free across the plains. After his naming ceremony
Roksha became Second Runner, and two years later, First Runner of the
Sharp Claws, the hunter's band that protected his clan's town and territory
from the fearsome creatures that came out of the Bitter Pears, or others
that live on the plains. Roksha was fast and strong, thought none matched
his skill with the bow. Though Roksha was proud of his position and
responsibilities his first love was running free on the plains. Often
he would race the hawks, his favorite animal hunting companion. When
the hawks were near, hunting was always good. He seemed to always know
where the best hunting was, when hawks were in the sky. Often Roksha
would camp on the plains, outside the confines of Sorntra's citadel.
Out on the plains he would often dream of soaring on the winds, watching
the land about him, sweeping down on prey below.
Seeking new trading contacts, and desiring of his son to see something of the world, Roksha's father sent him to study with Li-Cunstas, a Naturalist and Geographer who runs a small institute in De-Shamod. Here Roksha learned much of the lands and creatures of the Diamond Throne, and something of the lands beyond. Many things he studied at the school, but particularly he enjoyed the expeditions to distant lands near Sormere and Xavel. On these trips he could act as both student and guard, his bow always at the ready. On one of the school's field trips Roksha began to have startlingly vivid dreams in which he took the form of a hawk and flew away from the camp. The next morning hawks were seen circling the camp. In the days that followed Roksha noticed a sudden increase in his speed and accuracy with the bow. His teachers recognized the signs of one being called as a totem warrior. Learning of his destiny Roksha was overwhelmed with excitement. The powers and abilities he could attain someday were everything he dreamed of. Not long after he graduated from the school and returned home. Proud
of his accomplishments his father named him to the post of Far Scout,
allowing Roksha to travel far abroad, returning from time to time
to teach his clan of the world beyond. Now Roksha travels the land,
learning more of its ways and creatures, and further developing his
skill with the bow and his affinity with the hawk spirit. |
